Frequently Asked Questions
What does zeolite actually do in the soil?
Clinoptilolite is a natural aluminosilicate with a crystalline pore structure and a very high cation exchange capacity. It binds ammonium and potassium reversibly, releases them again with the soil solution and thereby cuts leaching losses on light soils. Unlike organic matter, it is not degraded — the effect is permanent.
Pumice or lava — which should I use?
Pumice is lighter and far more porous: use it where water and air storage at low weight matters, for example green roofs and container substrates. Lava granulate is heavier and mechanically more robust: use it where structural stability under load counts, for example sports turf, tree pits and structural soils.
Are these products a peat substitute?
Not on their own. Mineral components replace part of the physical function of peat — water and air capacity, structure — but not its organic matter. Reduced-peat and peat-free recipes therefore combine mineral components with wood fibre, compost, bark humus or coir. We blend to recipe.
Which grain size do I need?
As a rule of thumb: 0–2 mm for topdressing and fine substrates, 1–4 mm for potting and container substrates, 2–8 mm for green roofs and turf structural layers, 8–16 mm for drainage layers and tree-pit substrates. We can also supply specific grading curves.
What minimum order quantities apply?
For mineral bulk goods we work from 20 MT (single truck). Big-bag and bagged goods are available in smaller quantities; for recurring substrate production we set up call-off contracts with a fixed grading curve.
