Nitrogen Fertilizer

Calcium Ammonium Nitrate

CAN · Kalkammonsalpeter · KAS

27% Nitrogen (N)
CaN27%

Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) is a premium nitrogen fertilizer combining fast-acting nitrate-nitrogen with slower-release ammonium-nitrogen. The calcium content benefits soil structure and reduces acidification. CAN is the preferred nitrogen fertilizer in Northern and Central Europe for top-dressing cereals, rapeseed and grassland.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN)?
Calcium ammonium nitrate is a nitrogen fertilizer containing nitrogen in two forms: immediately available nitrate nitrogen and slower-acting ammonium nitrogen. The calcium component improves soil pH.
CAN vs. Urea — what are the key differences?
CAN contains both nitrate-N (immediately plant-available) and ammonium-N (slower release). Urea is 100% amide-N and must first be hydrolyzed to ammonium. CAN has lower volatilization risk in cool, wet European conditions. Urea is cheaper per unit N but requires faster incorporation.
Is CAN regulated under EU explosives precursor regulations?
CAN at ≤27.5% nitrogen content is NOT classified as an explosives precursor under EU Regulation 2019/1148. Products above this threshold require additional controls. All products we supply are standard commercial grade.
What is the current CAN price in Europe?
European CAN prices are closely linked to natural gas prices, as nitrogen fertilizers are energy-intensive to produce. Check our Market Prices page for weekly indicative prices, and contact us for a binding quote.
