Nitrogen + Sulphur

Ammonium Sulphate

Ammoniumsulfat · AS · (NH₄)₂SO₄

21% N · 24% S
NS21% + 24%

Ammonium Sulphate (AS) provides both nitrogen and sulphur in a single application. It is particularly valued for rapeseed (canola), cereals and grasses where sulphur deficiency is increasingly common in European soils. AS is primarily produced as a by-product of caprolactam (nylon) manufacturing, making it a sustainable choice. Cerantis sources AS from major European producers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ammonium sulphate and why is sulphur important?
Ammonium sulphate is a nitrogen and sulphur fertilizer. Sulphur supply in European soils has declined significantly since the 1980s due to reduced sulphur dioxide emissions — especially rapeseed, cereals and grasses respond positively to sulphur fertilization.
What makes AS a "sustainable" fertilizer?
Most ammonium sulphate in Europe is produced as a by-product of caprolactam (nylon) manufacturing. This means no dedicated production energy is used — it is recovered from an industrial process that would otherwise release ammonium as waste. This gives AS a very favorable carbon footprint per unit nutrient.
Granular vs. crystalline ammonium sulphate — what is the difference?
Crystalline AS (fine particles) dissolves very quickly and is used in fertigation and dissolving applications. Granular AS is more suitable for mechanical spreading and is less dusty. Cerantis supplies both forms depending on your application method.
Can AS be blended with other fertilizers?
AS blends well with urea, MOP and many NPK compounds. However, it should not be mixed with CAN or calcium-containing fertilizers as this can cause hygroscopic issues. Always check blend compatibility. We can advise on blending constraints.
What is the relationship between sulfuric acid and ammonium sulphate?
Sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) is a key component in ammonium sulphate production. AS is produced by reacting sulfuric acid with ammonia, or as a by-product of caprolactam manufacturing. While Cerantis does not trade sulfuric acid directly, we supply the end product — ammonium sulphate — which delivers sulphur in plant-available sulphate form.
