Phosphate Fertilizer

Diammonium Phosphate (DAP)

Diammoniumphosphat · 18-46-0 · Also: MAP · SSP · TSP

18% N · 46% P₂O₅
NP18-46-0

Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) is the world’s most widely used phosphate fertilizer. Its high phosphate content (46% P₂O₅) combined with a starter nitrogen dose (18% N) makes it ideal for pre-sowing application and root development. Cerantis sources DAP from major origins including Morocco, Egypt and the Middle East, and also provides MAP, SSP and TSP for distributors requiring diverse phosphate sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is diammonium phosphate (DAP)?
DAP is a water-soluble phosphate fertilizer containing 18% nitrogen and 46% P₂O₅. When applied to soil, it dissolves to release ammonium (NH₄⁺) and phosphate ions (HPO₄²⁻). The immediate phosphate availability makes it ideal for planting time application.
DAP vs. MAP — which should I choose?
DAP (18-46-0) has higher phosphate content and is the industry standard for most field crops. MAP (11-52-0) has slightly higher P₂O₅ and more nitrogen per unit P, making it preferred for blending and fertigation. For bulk field application, DAP is usually more cost-effective.
What is single superphosphate (SSP)?
SSP (0-20-0) contains 20% P₂O₅ plus around 10–11% sulphur and 20% calcium. It is the most cost-effective phosphate source when sulphur nutrition is also needed.
What is triple superphosphate (TSP)?
TSP (0-46-0) contains 46% P₂O₅ and no nitrogen. It is the highest-concentration solid phosphate fertilizer available, used when nitrogen input must be kept separate from phosphate application.
What are current DAP prices in Europe?
DAP prices depend on Moroccan OCP pricing, natural gas (for ammonia production), and freight rates. Our indicative weekly prices are on the Market Prices page. Contact us for a binding quote for your quantity and destination.
What role does phosphoric acid play in phosphate fertilizer production?
Phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄) is the key raw material for producing DAP, MAP and TSP. It is derived from phosphate rock using sulfuric acid (wet process) or heat (thermal process). The price and availability of phosphoric acid directly impacts DAP and MAP pricing in European markets.
