Nitrogen Fertilizer
Urea
Harnstoff · Carbamide · CH₄N₂O
46% Nitrogen (N)
Urea is the world’s most widely used nitrogen fertilizer, valued for its high nitrogen concentration (46% N) and versatility. Available in granular and prilled form, it can be applied to all major crops as a top-dressing, incorporated, or foliar fertilizer. Cerantis sources urea from trusted suppliers in China, Russia, and Egypt to serve European importers and distributors.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between granular and prilled urea?
Granular urea has a harder, larger particle (2–4 mm) and is better suited for mechanical spreading and blending. Prilled urea is smaller (1–2 mm), slightly softer, and dissolves faster. For most field applications, both perform equally well.
Urea vs. CAN — which is better for European conditions?
CAN (Calcium Ammonium Nitrate) has a lower nitrogen loss risk in wet, cool European spring conditions because it contains nitrate-N that is immediately available. Urea is cheaper but must be incorporated quickly to avoid ammonia volatilization. Many farmers use urea early season and CAN for top-dressing.
What is carbamide? Is it the same as urea?
Yes, carbamide is the IUPAC chemical name for urea (CH₄N₂O). In trade, both terms are used interchangeably.
What is the current urea price in Europe?
Urea prices fluctuate based on energy costs, Chinese export policy and seasonal demand. Our indicative price is updated weekly on the Market Prices page. Contact us for a binding quote for your specific origin, quantity and delivery port.
What stabilized urea options are available?
We can source urea with NBPT urease inhibitor (e.g. Agrotain-style) that significantly reduces ammonia volatilization. This is especially relevant for surface applications without incorporation. Ask us for availability.
What is UAN and how does it relate to urea?
UAN (Urea Ammonium Nitrate) is a liquid nitrogen fertilizer solution made by dissolving urea and ammonium nitrate in water. Common grades are UAN-28, UAN-30 and UAN-32. While Cerantis focuses on solid urea and CAN, UAN is widely used for fertigation and foliar spraying in European agriculture.
