Zinc Sulphate (ZnSO₄) is the standard fertilizer for correcting zinc deficiency — one of the most widespread micronutrient deficiencies, affecting an estimated half of all cereal-growing soils, especially calcareous and high-pH soils. The monohydrate (~33–35% Zn) is used for soil application and NPK blending; the heptahydrate (~21% Zn) is fully soluble for foliar feeding and fertigation. When is zinc fertilization needed?
Zinc deficiency is common on calcareous, high-pH soils and where phosphate levels are high, which lock up zinc. Sensitive crops include maize, cereals, beans and fruit. A soil or tissue test confirms the need before application.
Monohydrate vs. heptahydrate zinc sulphate — which to choose?
Monohydrate (~33–35% Zn) is more concentrated, stable and ideal for soil application and blending. Heptahydrate (~21% Zn) is fully water-soluble and preferred for foliar sprays and fertigation where fast uptake matters.
How is zinc sulphate applied as a foliar spray?
A typical foliar concentration is 0.5–1% (heptahydrate dissolved in water), applied in 1–3 sprays at 10–14 day intervals. Soil application of the monohydrate is usually 5–15 kg/ha depending on deficiency severity. We can advise per crop.
Can zinc be over-applied?
