Potassium + Sulphur
Potassium Sulphate
Kaliumsulfat · SOP · Sulphate of Potash · K₂SO₄
50% K₂O · 18% S
Potassium Sulphate (SOP, K₂SO₄) is the premium, chloride-free potassium source that also supplies sulphur. With a very low salt index it is the potash of choice for chloride-sensitive and quality crops — potatoes, fruit, vines, vegetables and tobacco — and for sulphur-demanding oilseeds. SOP is the natural counterpart to MOP (potassium chloride) wherever chloride must be avoided. Cerantis supplies granular and soluble grades to European distributors.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between SOP and MOP?
MOP (potassium chloride, 60% K₂O) is the cheapest potash but contains chloride. SOP (potassium sulphate, 50% K₂O) is chloride-free, has a lower salt index and additionally supplies ~18% sulphur. For potatoes, fruit, vines and vegetables SOP protects quality where MOP would not.
Does potassium sulphate contain sulphur?
Yes — SOP supplies around 18% sulphur in plant-available sulphate form alongside 50% K₂O. This makes it a dual-nutrient fertilizer, particularly valuable on the many European soils that are now sulphur-deficient.
Is potassium sulphate allowed in organic farming?
Potassium sulphate is generally listed as a permitted input in EU organic production under Regulation 2018/848, provided it is not obtained by a chemical process that adds prohibited substances. Always confirm the specific grade with your certifier.
How does SOP relate to Patentkali / Kalimagnesia?
Patentkali (Kalimagnesia, K₂SO₄·MgSO₄) is a related chloride-free product that combines potassium and sulphur with magnesium. Pure SOP (K₂SO₄) contains no magnesium. Choose Patentkali when magnesium is also needed; choose SOP for the highest potassium concentration. Ask us about both.
What application rates are typical for potatoes?
Indicatively, potato crops receive in the order of 500–600 kg/ha SOP depending on soil potassium status and target yield, usually applied before planting. Always base rates on a soil test — we are happy to advise.
